Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard one of your breastfeeding patients say this (or something like it):

“My breasts hurt so bad with this mastitis. If something doesn’t change, I’ll have to stop breastfeeding. Please help?!”

Got a hand raised?

Now, raise another hand if you've felt unsure about what to suggest to breastfeeding parents when they come to you with questions about how to alleviate:

  • Breast pain
  • Intense breast tenderness
  • Breast swelling
  • Skin redness, discolouration, or irritation
  • Lumps or knots in the breast
  • Pain or burning sensation while breastfeeding

Two hands in the air?

Hey, maybe you're here because you didn't even know you could make a difference in a mamas life with your hands on skills. You're certainly not alone!

Untitled design-3

Most manual therapists and clinical professionals aren’t taught much about pre- and post-partum breast health at university.

Even lactation consultants are provided very little direction when it comes to the hands-on world of breast tissue treatment.

And we’re willing to bet even if you’ve tried to learn more by taking lactation workshops, brushing up on women’s health online, or reading studies about common breastfeeding conditions…

You probably still aren’t sure how to provide care in the clinic.

Especially when it comes to treating mastitis, blocked ducts, engorgement, and other inflammatory breast tissue conditions, a lot of the available knowledge can be incomplete or contradictory.

Sound familiar?

We know because we’ve been there ourselves!

(You can put your hands down now.)

That’s because boobs (especially lactating ones) are largely left out of the healthcare convo

Practitioner breast assessment

We can all agree that mamas are amazing. And their boobs are amazing too.

And given the frequency of mastitis and breast inflammatory conditions, you’d think breast health education would be at the forefront of women’s health.

But the reality is most healthcare providers aren’t taught how to assess, treat, or help lactating boobs in need of care.

After a combined 20 years of studying and treating breastfeeding mamas in the clinic, we’ve learned a thing or two about boobs.

So, let’s start busting some of the most common breast healthcare myths, shall we?

Myth #1

Breast problem? Antibiotics are the solution!

While antibiotics can be appropriate under certain circumstances, not all inflammation is caused by bacteria in the breast.

In Reality…

Antibiotics are overprescribed for breastfeeding conditions

When it comes to mastitis, blocked ducts, or engorgement, manual massage and simple stretches can often reduce inflammation without the use of antibiotics.

Myth #2

Lymphatic massage is the only technique you need to know

Most healthcare professionals learn one massage approach to treat breastfeeding conditions. But when it comes to boobs, a one-size fits all approach never works.

In Reality…

Relying on one technique will sell your patients short on recovery given the unique nature of breast tissue

Spoiler: We have over 15 techniques we use in the clinic and recommend for at-home care

Myth #3

Always massage the breast toward the nipple

This advice is the most common recommendation for health care professionals when it comes to treating breast tissue inflammation, but this often doesn’t work.

In Reality…

Massage techniques can be tailored to individual cases

To properly diagnose and treat breast inflammation conditions, we use a combo of ultrasound, lymphatic drainage massage, and hand massage. Every patient is unique.

*Spoiler: We use the “massage toward the nipple” technique the least!

Myth #4

Milk-making glands and connecting ducts are the problem in lactation conditions

Popular opinions tell us glandular and ductal tissue are the culprits when it comes to mastitis, blocked ducts, or engorgement. But this isn’t always so.

In Reality…

Inflammatory conditions can be caused by blood flow, lymphatic drainage, hormones, and other breast tissues

Solely focusing on milk-producing tissue means you risk ignoring the real cause of many inflammatory breast conditions.

Wild stuff, right?

And that’s just the tippy top of the iceberg.

The bottom line:

Healthcare professionals (that’s you!) deserve better tools and education to provide reliable and effective care to breastfeeding patients.

So we can better support mamas and breastfeeding parents—one boob at a time.

Sound like the kind of approach that’s right up your alley?

Fantastic service provided. Very informative and throughout. I felt mental relief after seeing practitioner. Only needed two treatments!”

I feel much more confident to manage any blocked feeling that I get with hot shower and massage which has been very effective to keep mastitis away. I also understand more about how mastitis sets in, thanks for educating me about my body!”

your two jugs co-founders

We’re the founders of Your Two Jugs and clinicians at the Melbourne Mastitis Clinic.

So started Your Two Jugs and packaged up our in-clinic framework into courses and digital resources to help mamas around the globe struggling with mastitis, blocked ducts, and engorgement.

*The average video is bite-sized at about 6 minutes each.

Yes! In more ways than one. You’ll learn 15+ manual massage techniques we use in the clinic to treat mastitis, blocked ducts, engorgement, and more.

This course is perfect for you if you are ready to turn your interest in lactation health into a practical skillset to treat mastitis, blocked ducts, breast engorgement, and more. All while improving boob health in pre- and post-partum mamas and breastfeeding parents.

In other words, if you’re a lactation consultant, osteopath, physical therapist, midwife, or women's-health-focused healthcare professional looking for a hands-on approach to helping mamas have happier, healthier boobs, we can’t wait for you to become a boob hero!

Yes! Boob Hero goes beyond traditional lactation knowledge that often focuses on latching, milk production, and feeding techniques. You’ll learn not only about how and why the lactating breast experiences conditions like mastitis, blocked ducts, and engorgement, but you’ll also learn hands-on techniques you can use to support your patients and prevent recurring problems.

Yes. We help you understand the role of therapeutic ultrasound in treating breast tissue conditions and the basics behind therapeutic ultrasound use.

You’ll also learn why therapeutic ultrasound is not the be-all, end-all to treatment and provide you with all the hands on strategies you’ll ever need instead!

Please note that therapeutic ultrasound is not in everyone’s scope of practice. Please check with your insurance providers.

That’s a big YES. Hands-on massage techniques are our special sauce in-clinic and our favorite way to treat patients. You’ll learn our approaches in depth inside the course so you’re ready to use manual massage (and other treatment options) with your patients right away.

Learn 15+ manual massage techniques to treat inflammatory breastfeeding conditions.

Sure can. Boob Hero is self-paced, so you’ll get instant access to all the modules, lessons, and resources as soon as you join. You can dive right in!

“Highly recommend this mastitis treatment. This is my 2nd baby and instead of automatically going on antibiotics which is what the GP would prescribe I was able to manage the onset of mastitis with this treatment instead which was so beneficial for me and my newborn. I recommend this to everyone!”

“I have had ongoing mastitis and engorgement issues since my baby was 1 month old and she is now 18 weeks. The ultrasound therapy really helped to break up the lumpiness and the massage techniques were incredibly helpful too. I’ve continued to use the massage techniques at home as soon as I feel any lumpiness and it helps move the fluid almost straight away. Katie is genuinely invested in helping her clients and investigating why the issues happen to begin with instead of just focusing on fixing it.”

“I suspected I had mastitis in the middle of the night when I began feeling the chills. It took away all anxiety overnight knowing I had that appointment. I just think the service you provide is outstanding. Thank you!”

“I was so fortunate I found out about this service after speaking with my baby's osteo about my symptoms. My GP had led me to believe antibiotics was only treatment. I had tried self help and was doing aggressive massage as per internet. I wish your clinic was known more broadly!! Thank you.”

“ I felt immediately comfortable and had confidence in all three therapists. I only wish I had found your clinic sooner. There must be so many women who are suffering who need your help and not the help of their GP. My GP only offered antibiotics which didn't help anyway.”

“I have recommended you to others and let my GP know to refer patients with mastitis to you as well! Really highly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to return if needed. You guys saved me when I needed it most, thank you :)”

“Really appreciate the work you're doing and the service you're providing. I was able to avoid antibiotics and keep feeding with minimal pain after the treatment!”

Turns out there are perks to being a total boob nerd…

Book 10 appointments (or less!) and Boob Hero pays for itself

When you can assess and treat inflammatory breast conditions, you’re not only helping mamas in need, you’re adding to your professional skill set. Which means you can solve more problems for your patients.

Our goal? To give you the tools to think holistically and globally about breast health so you can help hundreds (or thousands!) of mamas have happier, healthier boobs.

And after just the first ten appointments you book, your Boob Hero investment will have paid for itself.

That’s what we call a win for you and a win for your future patients.

See you in the course, you big boob hero, you.
